Mountain State Science: Jason Best
Studies show students in the
United
States
are not as math and science literate as students in other comparable countries. But at least one college
professor at Shepherd University is on a mission to make science more exciting and as Cecelia Mason reports
the school has a state of the art research telescope to help him do that.
Doctor Jason Best is an
astrophysicist who has dreamed of being an astronomer since he was a small
child. For 14 years he’s enthusiastically guided students at Shepherd through
classes. Best dresses in T-shirts with scientific themes and offers lectures
sprinkled with Shakespearean language as he invokes popular culture and science
fiction to get his points across.
This Week in West Virginia our Mountain State Science series
continues with a report by Cecelia Mason on Dr. Best and his work at
Shepherd.
