Long-serving legislator retiring
December 21, 2012 ·
For 20 years now, Jefferson County resident John Doyle has been a fixture on the floor of the state House of Delegates. That will change come February when the new 60 day session begins.
Doyle decided not to run for reelection this time,
effectively retiring after serving Jefferson
County a total of 22 years, in 1983
and 1984, and again from 1993 until the present.
Despite his long tenure, Doyle does not consider himself a
‘career politician.’
“One of the reasons I decided for the legislature is that it
is part time and I did not want to be a career politicians,” Doyle said. “I
guess you could call me a long time part time politician but yeah if I had
wanted to make a career out of politics I would have found something full time
either to run for or to try to get appointed to.”
Jefferson County
attorney Stephen Skinner is replacing Doyle.
