Midwest snow storm heads toward West Virginia
December 20, 2012 ·
Winter weather warnings and advisories are in effect for much of West Virginia. The National Weather Service is watching the snow storm that’s gripping the Midwest right now as it moves eastward into the state.
Meteorologist Joe Merchant says rain will change to snow
overnight.
“We’re going to see about two to three inches here in the
lowlands and then portions of the mountains are going to get over a foot. And then the elevations sort of in the middle
will get between three and six inches.”
Wind advisories
are also in effect. Gusts of between 15
to 25 miles per hour with strong gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are
predicted. You are advised to secure any
outdoor holiday decorations.
Merchant says
the storm will move out by early Saturday morning.
“We’re going to
see the system start to move out later in the day on Friday. The main part of the system will be well off
to our northwest but then with the precipitation on the back side the snow fall
will start to wind down late Friday early Saturday.”
