For Halloween, a WV ghost story
October 30, 2012 ·
For Halloween, Judy Byers shares a West Virginia ghost story. She's the director of the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center, in Fairmont.
The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center in Fairmont holds the collection of scores of West Virginia ghost tales, collected over the years.
The center’s director Judy Byers says West Virginia ghost stories have usually three types of ghosts: a helpful one who comes back to help a loved one; a revengeful ghost, who wants to seek justice for a wrong; and a poltergeist, a spirit who died suddenly or tragically.
For Halloween, Byers shares a Wetzel County ghost story called “Help,” about a helpful ghost.
