Update: EP emergency shelters open
October 30, 2012 ·
Emergency shelters are now open in Berkeley, Morgan and Jefferson Counties as Hurricane Sandy moves through the area.
A news release from the Berkeley County Office of Homeland
Security and Emergency Management says the American Red Cross and Salvation
Army have opened a shelter at Martinsburg
High School.
The release says the shelter provides cots, but those using
the shelter will have to bring their own pillows and blankets and personal
hygiene items. Pets are welcome but they must be crated. Owners must bring
their own carriers and pet food.
In Jefferson County
a shelter is open at the Senior Center
in Ranson and at Jefferson High School. A news release from the Jefferson County Emergency Management Office says families and individuals using the shelter at the high school can bring cats and dogs.
The news release from Jefferson
County’s Emergency Management
Office also says Harpers Ferry National
Historical Park
will be closed Tuesday.
The Hot Line at the Jefferson
County Emergency
Operations Center
for non-emergency information is (304) 728-6345.
Two shelters are open in Morgan County, at the Old War Memorial Hospital building and the South Morgan Volunteer Fire
Department. The Morgan County web site says evacuees should bring blankets,
pillows, medicine, toiletries, food and drink and any other items they might
need.
