Morgantown among the Best Places to Live on $100 a Day
October 23, 2012 ·
According to AARP's list, other cities on the list include San Antonio, Pittsburgh, and Omaha.
Morgantown mayor Jim Manilla is thrilled with the news.
"I think that’s great news, it just shows what Morgantown has to offer, not just offer local citizens and university students, but it now it shows what we have to offer senior citizens for retirement," said Manilla.
AARP says it started with a theoretical income of $36,500, or $100 a day.
After taxes at 25 percent, that leaves just over $27,000.
AARP then used a median housing cost of about $190,000, or a monthly mortgage of about $700 a month.
It started with a list of 200 cities then pared it to 10 by focusing on quality of life components such as arts and culture, colleges and restaurants.
That leaves a retiree about $1500 - $1,562 a month for everything else.
