September 24, 2012 · It’s International Peace Day and some people in the Morgantown area are marking the occasion with a meditation flash mob.

Heather Zeni and Amy Widmer are organizers of a new group, MedMobMorgantown, resolved to Be the Peace. As part of an international movement, the women organized a local “BeThePeace” event.

Heather Zeni says members of the public will meet today in Morgantown at 5:45 for an hour-long silent meditation.

“A meditation flash mob is just where people come together in a public place and just sit in silence, so you’re literally just sitting together, in silence, promoting peace.”

Zeni says the group stages these public meditations monthly and today they are meeting at Dorsey’s Knob—the highest point in Monongalia County—which overlooks Morgantown.

Widmer says the goal is to create a 'wave of peace' across the world by having events at six o'clock local time in each region.

“It’s for all religions, all faiths, all belief systems. It really is about the unifying effect that we all have in common—love, joy, peace—and we can all agree on that. And so everyone is welcome to come.”
