September 12, 2012 · State Police have charged a Braxton County High School student in the fatal shooting of his uncle at a home about 100 yards from school.

Sgt. A.J. Shingler says 18-year-old Billy Joe McCraw is charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm and claims that the shooting was accidental.

McCraw is accused of killing 33-year-old Donald Morrison late last night in the Sutton home where both of them were living.

Morrison died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

McCraw was arrested early today and lodged at Central Regional Jail.

Shingler says the scene was cleared by 5 a.m. and operations at the school were unaffected.

The investigation is continuing, and police will consult with the prosecutor on the possibility of additional charges.
