2012 WV Games being held in Charleston

August 31, 2012 · The West Virginia Games kick off tomorrow morning in Charleston.

 

More than 150 athletes will compete in events such as beach volleyball, jiu jitsu and submission wrestling, a zumbathon, strength challenges and even cornhole tournaments.

 

The games are held to promote physical fitness and friendly competition and are the largest collection of sanctioned sporting events in the state.

 

The event starts with a concert tonight at the Moses Automotive Group Live on the Levee concert.

 

Then the events start tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. with the annual Charleston Distance Run.

 

Most of the events are held on Magic Island or nearby locations, but could be affected by rain from Tropical storm Isaac.

The Boy Scouts of America passed a resolution yesterday that ends a century old ban on openly gay scouts beginning next January. Sixty-one percent of votes from those attending the annual national meeting in Grapevine Texas voted yes on the resolution. The ban still applies to openly gay scout leaders.
