DEP issues order to Antero Resources

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection wants the Denver-based company to demonstrate the ability to resume operations safely, before it can start working again at the site of Friday's gas well explosion.
Three people were injured when a gas well fire and explosion occurred early Friday morning at the Cottrill No. 3 Well, in Harrison County.
Antero Resources Appalachian Corporation is the well operator, and is ordered by the DEP to demonstrate the ability to reasonably contain any methane on site.
Antero is also required to cease any and all operations not necessary in the state as part of its efforts to gain control of the well.
The company must also cooperate with the DEP Office of Oil and Gas to determine what practices are necessary to ensure well control.
DEP spokesman Tom Aluise says the investigation into Friday's incident is ongoing.
