August 13, 2012 · Another West Virginia native is going after the prize on nationwide talent show.

Forty-six year old Rodney Boyden is showing off his carpentry skills on All American Handyman premiering on Sunday, August 19 on the HGTV home improvement cable channel.

Rodney Boyden is also an accomplished musician, honing his musical skills as a young boy at the Central Baptist Church in Beckley.

After moving to Charleston in 1989, Boyden attended West Virginia State University. He performed at area churches before becoming the music director of the choir at the Charleston Job Corps Center.

Currently based in Atlanta, Boyden will put his carpentry talents to the test. In the first episode this Sunday, he’ll have to install a new toilet in just 30 minutes.

Boyden is related to another famous West Virginian who won a national talent show. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr, who took the title on America’s Got Talent, is his cousin.
