July 6, 2012 · Insurance claims are being called in throughout the Mountain State in the aftermath of the derecho.

State Farm Insurance is just one of the 34 insurance companies working in West Virginia. So far it's received more than 3000 property claims and almost a thousand auto claims since the storm blew through West Virginia more than a week ago. State Farm spokeswoman Amy Preddy says they are receiving claims from across the mid-Atlantic region.

“In West Virginia we saw a lot of wind so as a result of that we’re seeing a lot of downed trees on vehicles, on structures, on power lines.”

The company is encouraging people to try to prevent further damage if there is damage and to keep any receipts so that they can be reimbursed.
