July 5, 2012 · The Contemporary American Theater Festival in Shepherdstown kicks off its 22nd season Friday night.

 

Two plays in this year’s Contemporary American TheaterFestival focus on parenting and children, one revolves around the capture of Nazi war criminal Adolph Eichmann in Argentina in 1960, and another is about a romantic encounter in Barcelona Spain.


The five plays selected for this season include two world premieres.


Since opening in 1991 CATF put on 90 plays, including 34 world premieres.


The festival saw a 15 percent increase in attendance last year with theater goers coming from 35 states.


The Contemporary American Theater Festival opens Friday and runs until July 29.

The Boy Scouts of America passed a resolution yesterday that ends a century old ban on openly gay scouts beginning next January. Sixty-one percent of votes from those attending the annual national meeting in Grapevine Texas voted yes on the resolution. The ban still applies to openly gay scout leaders.
