July 3, 2012 · National Outfitter Cabela’s has opened yet in Charleston, but the retailer made 230 generators available for sale this afternoon.

Cabela’s isn’t scheduled to open till August 9, but with much of the area struggling with high heat and a lack of power managers saw an opportunity to sell generators that the public could use.

The Champion generators run at 3500 watts on gasoline and can be used for refrigerators and window air conditioners or fans. Mark Seekely of South Hills said he decided to take advantage of the offer.

“I need one, my power is out and my line is down at my house and I’m feeling like another five days is really a potential so since they’re available I decided to come and get one,” Seekely said.

Fred Lane of St. Albans said he’s often thought about purchasing a generator before today, but put it off.

“It’s been in the back of my mind to get one because you know you experience a winter time problem too, but it’s not something you dwell on a lot, but right now it’s a prediction of Saturday or later, you got to do something,” Lane said.

The generators originally were scheduled to arrive at noon, but the truck didn’t make it till 3pm.
