WVU Provost offers thoughts on higher ed

June 14, 2012 · West Virginia University announced recently that there will be a 5% increase in tuition in the upcoming academic year. Provost Michele Wheatly discusses the change and some of the other challenges in higher education today.
Born and raised in London,  Wheatly just finished her 2nd academic year as WVU’s first female provost. Prior to joining WVU in January 2010, Wheatly was the dean of the College of Science and Mathematics and professor of Biological Sciences at Wright State University. The Boy Scouts of America passed a resolution yesterday that ends a century old ban on openly gay scouts beginning next January. Sixty-one percent of votes from those attending the annual national meeting in Grapevine Texas voted yes on the resolution. The ban still applies to openly gay scout leaders.
