Charleston chef Robert Wong dies suddenly

May 30, 2012 · A noted chef and restauranteur in Charleston has died. Robert Wong owned the Bridge Road Bistro and other restaurants across the state.

 

Wong collapsed yesterday after a tennis match. Earlier this spring, the chef began a series of cooking demonstrations at the state culture center that featured Appalachian foods. 

 

Chef Wong was 50 years old.   

 

A native of San Francisco, Wong became executive chef at the Greenbrier, Glade Springs and Snowshoe Mountain resorts. 

 

He opened the Bridge Road Bistro and several other food businesses in Charleston and around the state.   

 

He is survived by his wife Sherri and two sons.
