April 4, 2012 · The Marshall University Forensic Science Center announced a brand new accreditation for the facility today.

The Forensic Science program which started in 1995, was at the time one of only 7 programs in the country.

Over the past few years Digital Forensics has become ever more important at the facility with the establishment of a lab used by the West Virginia State police.

Today officials like Dr. Terry Fenger, the director of the Forensic Science Center, announced that Marshall’s digital forensics program was the first in the world to receive accreditation.

“Essentially when we attract students to our academic program they’re very savvy, they go on the internet and they’re comparing programs one to another and the fact that ours is accredited and meets these national standards sends a message to our West Virginia Students as well as students throughout the country,” Fenger said.

Also in attendance at the announcement was West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin.
