July 26, 2010 ·
West Virginia will receive $855,628 from the federal government to help fund a program that aims to improve the lives of children.
The U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services is providing $88 million to states for Maternal,
Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting programs.
The programs involve nurses, social workers, or other professionals
meeting with families in their homes to evaluate the families' circumstances
and help them access health care and developmental services and early education
for children and also teach parenting skills, child abuse prevention and
nutrition.
Senators Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and Carte Goodwin, D-W.Va., released a
statement about the announcement and both called it an example of the benefits
of recent health care reform.
