November 5, 2009 · A French international news channel correspondent for France 24 visited West Virginia and reported anti-Obama sentiments run high in the Mountain State.

Correspondent Guillaume Meyer visited Parkersburg to speak to local residents about President Obama.

Vietnam veteran Ron Lott openly discussed his suspicion of the President.

“He’s a Kenyan born nationalist, and I believe that any man that wants to hold the highest office in this country who can’t produce a birth certificate is a fake,” Lott said in the story.

Meyer reported that Lott and some of his friends think Obama is a Muslim and a Socialist.

The report also shows footage from a health care rally in Parkersburg, where Obama supporters were met by protesters.

One of the protesters was Tom Stark. Stark plans to run for West Virginia’s First District seat in next year’s congressional race.

Meyer describes him as an ultra-conservative who also dislikes the President.

“This is not about his religion, this is not about his race, it’s not about any of those things,” Stark said in the report.

“What it’s about is what he is trying to do in the way with forcing more and more government decision making into our lives.”

Meyer interviews one Obama supporter whose name is not mentioned in the broadcast.

The Web version of the story lists her name as Helen Harms.

Last November, only 43 percent of West Virginia voters picked Obama over John McCain.

Polls consistently show Obama to be unpopular in the state.
