Blair Mountain off national historic register

Blair Mountain had only been added to the Natiional Register of Historic Places in March of this year.

July 8, 2009 · Blair Mountain is off the National Register of Historic Places. State officials were notified last week.

It had made the prestigious historical list, but officials determined that out of the 57 property owners involved, 30 of them opposed Blair Mountain’s inclusion. 

 

Federal rules bar listing on the register of a majority oppose it.

 

It was a 20-year effort and Karen Carper, executive director of the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia is disappointed.
