U.S. Army Reserve members and their families give a personal account of deployment as a “citizen soldiers”. Bridgeport to Baghdad:  West Virginia’s 459th at Home and at War  is a special 120 minute documentary series on Outlook, West Virginia PBS's weekly news magazine. 


Part II:  "Soldier" describes the year they spent in Iraq and how their families coped. In the second half, the 459th gets an opportunity to do what they were trained to do:  build a bridge over the Diyala River, under enemy fire, so the Marines could assault into southern Baghdad. During the remainder of their year in Iraq, they hauled Iraqi artillery shells in the desert sun and stood guard at the base in Balad.
