After figuring out the vagaries of international calling, I recently got to chat with Irish pianist Barry Douglas. The street sounds you hear during the interview are from London, where he was visiting to perform. This weekend, he'll be in Charleston, WV to perform Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 with the West Virginia Symphony. We talked about the orchestra he leads (Camerata Ireland), the music of Brahms, music as reconciliation, and the challenges of starting a musical career in Ireland.
