Listening to Chaise Lounge is like donning a smoking jacket, putting a vinyl record on from the 1960’s and letting the smoky jazz carry you away. It is a sound that is both retro and fresh, with tight arrangements, but never at the cost of a laid back feel. Plus, they describe their music as that rarest of styles – lounge.
Charlie Barnett is the group’s guitarist, composer and arranger. I had an opportunity to speak with him about the group and their upcoming concert as part of the Charleston Jazz Series.
