We're excited to announce that the original Honky Tonk Hero Billy Joe Shaver will return to Mountain Stage for his sixth appearance on Sunday, December 4 at the Culture Center Theater along with Matraca Berg (see below), Noam Pikelny & Friends and April Verch. Tickets are on sale now.

With some 23 albums to his credit, Texas based songwriter Billy Joe Shaver's storied career is unparalleled. His autobiography "Honky Tonk Hero" released in 2005, is a page-turner filled with tales of the "Outlaw" movement of 1970s country music, ushered in by Waylon Jennings' landmark recording "Honky Tonk Heros," which featured 11 Shaver songs. His latest, "Everybody's Brother" was nominated for a Grammy and features duets with John Anderson, Kris Kristofferson and Marty Stuart.

A member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Matraca Berg made a big splash with "The Dreaming Fields," her first CD in 14 years. Inspired by landmark albums like "Harvest" and "Pieces of the Sky," "The Dreaming Fields" conjures the same sparse and powerful production of those influential hallmarks. Berg's song "You and Tequila" has impacted the world of popular music with a version recorded by Kenny Chesney & Grace Potter.Hear her version on Amazon.

This Sunday, October 30 at the Culture Center in Charleston, we’ll be joined by acoustic duo The Milk Carton Kids (along with The Nighthawks, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Chandler Travis Three-O, and Sarah Siskind).

The Milk Carton Kids describe themselves as a minimalist harmonizing duo who use two guitars and two voices to create a new combination of back-porch Americana and classic folk. Comprised of Kenneth Pattengale & Joey Ryan, comparisons to classic folk pairings like Simon & Garfunkel write themselves, and dare we say the duo's intricate guitar picking is reminiscent of David Rawlings’ work with Gillian Welch.
