Swine Flu Online Info

 Permanent link

In response to concern and questions about “swine flu” West Virginia PBS aired a special Doctors on Call Thursday, April 30, to address this topic.

But in case you missed the program, there are online resources as well.

The National Center for Media Engagement alerted WV Public Broadcasting to some helpful resource links that we’d like to pass on to you.

If you want to know who to contact in West Virginia and what the state’s response plans are, click here.

If you live outside West Virginia, your state’s information can be found here.

You can check out the NPR Health blog and NewsHour Global Health pages for the latest swine flu coverage. You can also sign up for an RSS feed.

The CDC’s hand-washing video is online here along with other helpful videos.

At this time, you are advised to take these general precautions for preventing seasonal flu and other communicable diseases:

    * Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

Throw the tissue in the trash.

    *  Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you

cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

    * Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread that way. Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

    * If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact

with others to keep from infecting them.

Thanksgiving Memories

Thanksgiving dinner

Thanksgiving is nearly upon us.

It's one of those holidays that evokes strong emotions and sense memories: the smell of roasting turkey ... the roar of a crowd at a football game ... the sight of the season's first snowfall.

We'd like you to share your Thanksgiving stories - happy, nostalgic, diastrous or whatever.

Write them down, then post them as comments here to share.

Or email us - feedback@wvpubcast.org - putting "Thanksgiving stories" in the subject.

You can also call us and leave your story on our answering machine. The number is 304-556-4936.

Need an example or inspiration? Look for Thanksgiving stories from some of our staff on the Web in the next week.

And - Happy Thanksgiving!
